The Best Horror Movie Podcasts for Your Halloween Listening Pleasure

Bub

Unfortunately, most of us can’t spend every hour of October watching horror movies…sigh. Fortunately, a number of great podcasts covering the genre are waiting for you free of charge via iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, Spotify, etc.

I didn’t start listening to podcasts until five years ago when my son, then 12, asked if I could recommend a few. I went in search of fellow scare nerds like me and found a plethora of gems. I now listen to these shows when I’m driving, at the gym, cooking or whatever. These led my son to want to do our own podcast and we hope you check it out here on this website. But, besides my blatant plug, here are the ones I recommend you check out if you haven’t already.

  1. Horror Movie Podcast at https://horrormoviepodcast.com. This is the gold standard! It was the first one I found on Google (simplicity has its merits) and they bring it every episode.

  2. Land of the Creeps at http://landofthecreeps.blogspot.com Gregamortis is the southern gentleman who also has the coolest name in podcasting. He and his beloved Pearl always pick fascinating topics and they are joined by the encyclopedia of knowledge, Dave “Dr. Shock” Becker (who blogs at http://www.dvdinfatuation.com ), Big Bill from up north, Haddonfield Hatchet, Justin Beahm and an assortment of co-host who know the genre as well as anyone.

  3. Post Mortem with Mick Garris at https://www.facebook.com/mickgarrisinterviews/ Acclaimed writer/producer/director Mick Garris seems to know everyone in the genre and everything about it. He also strikes me as one of the most gracious human beings on the face of the earth. Look forward to every episode.

  4. Nightmare University with Dr. Rebecca McKendy at https://twitter.com/NightmareUPod Dr. McKendry writes, produces and directs horror films, teaches about them at the university level and is a metal head…what’s not to love about that! Every few weeks she does a deep dive into the genre that I always find fascinating.

  5. Shock Waves at http://podcast.blumhouse.com Blumhouse has done horror fans a great service by not only providing quality genre films but an amazing podcast featuring the aforementioned Dr. McKendry, Rob Galluzzo, Elric Kane, Ryan Turek and special guests—a must.

  6. The Justin Beahm Radio Hour at https://justinbeahm.com/justin-beahm-radio-hour/ When Justin isn’t producing amazing content for Shout Factory or penning must read articles in magazines like Scream, he delivers a great podcast with interesting guests working within the genre. Do yourself a favor and subscribe.

A number of others are also worth mentioning including Considering Horror Cinema at https://www.consideringthecinema.com and Horror Movie Weekly at https://horrormovieweekly.com with the great Jay of the Dead (even if his co-hosts on the latter drive me batty). I also often check in with Horror News Radio at https://horrornewsradio.com and Dino and Michelle (great people!) from the Huuh? Podcast also frequently discuss horror films at https://twitter.com/huuuhpodcast?lang=en. Also, it is the time of year for Retro Movie Geek’s Spooky Flix Fest at https://retromoviegeek.com You’ll never have so much fun hearing people talk over each other!

If I’ve missed any you feel are worthy of our time, please feel free to DM on Twitter at https://twitter.com/PastorMattR

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m spending my one day off as I’m sure most ministers do, watching “Hands of the Ripper” on Shudder.
